The Weekly News Roundup - week of September 20 - 24

Bieberama
- Justin Bieber made his acting debut on Thursday night's CSI.
- Photos of Bieber kissing his tour-mate Jasmine Villegas almost took down the entire internet on Tuesday. Twitter will certainly never be the same.
- The Biebster went on a mini-vacation to South Africa on Wednesday, before his next scheduled concert - in Hawaii. No part of that sentence made sense.

Glee
- The Britney Spears episode is almost here! Watch the promo.
- Matthew Morrison used to date Kristin Bell back in college. Old news, but still apparentlynews.

Non-Glee TV
- Lauren Conrad is getting her own reality show on MTV, thus saving the universe from certain destruction.
- Sesame Street pulled a segment it taped with Katy Perry after parents complained that her costume was too revealing. The clip is going viral on YouTube, of course.
- Demi Lovato was spotted going bowling with her boyfriend Rob Kardashian this week. She also hit the red carpet for the Padres Contra El Cancer gala on Thursday. The charity supports Hispanic children who have cancer, and Eva Longoria is their spokesperson.
- Miranda Cosgrove will have a guest spot on an upcoming episode of The Good Wife, where she'll play a troubled pop star.
- Miley's boyfriend Liam Hemsworth will host the Australian Kids Choice Awards.
- Bailee Madison was on Law & Order: SVU this week, playing a girl who ran away from her foster parents to be with Desmond from Lost.
- Kyle Massey made it through to the next round of Dancing With the Stars.

Movies
- Mandalay just bought the rights to Firelight, the young adult novels about dragons. And here I was hoping unicorns would be the new vampires.
- The new Harry Potter trailer is out. Only 56 days left...
- And the new Twisted trailer is out, too, but we already knew that!
- Twilight: New Moon made the Guinness Book of World Records, ousting "The Dark Knight" for the title of Highest Opening-Day Gross with $72.7million.
- Lindsay Lohan is back in jail. The streets of Los Angeles are safe again... for now. I think this city needs superheroes to protect us from the celebrities.
- Chloe Moretz (Hit Girl from Kickass) will play the title role in the upcoming movie Emily the Strange. She is currently the vampire in Let Me In, based on the movie Let the Right One In.
- AJ Michalka is the latest actress to join the cast of the Spielburg/Abrams movie Super 8. Already in the cast are Elle Fanning and Kyle Chandler.
- Zac Efron still has his horrible little beard.
- They're making a movie of The Suite Life On Deck.

Music
- Selena Gomez was on Good Morning, America this week for an interview and a performance.
- The new OK Go video "White Knuckles" is mind-boggling. You know you want to watch it.
- This week Taylor Swift announced the full track list for her upcoming album "Speak Now."
- Pixie Lott released her EP "Broken Arrow" this week.

Doing Good
- A radio station in Canada offered free Bieber tickets to the fans who donated the most cans of food in their "Feed It to Bieber" food drive. Two girls won, but the real winner was the community: the food drive collected over 21,000 food items for the Saskatoon Food Bank.
- Nickelodeon's Worldwide Day of Play is tomorrow in NYC (and presumably worldwide). On hand for the main festivities will be Nick stars Keke Palmer, Victoria Justice, Miranda Cosgrove, Robbie Amell, Matt Shively, Ashley Argota, Chris Paul, and Jeff Sutphen. Players can participate in basketball, climbing a rockwall, running an obstacle course, and playing Nick's Wii Fit.
- Jordin Sparks will be working with the Starkey Hearing Foundation in NYC this weekend to give free hearing aids to hearing-impaired underprivileged children in the area.
- The Jonas Brothers teamed up with Office Max to give $1000 worth of school supplies to each teacher at the Los Feliz Charter School for the Arts this week. The Brothers also did a meet & greet with students and teachers.

Cashing In
- Selena Gomez was at a Kmart in NYC to promote her fashion line called "Dream Out Loud", and will soon head to London to promote her new album "A Year Without Rain." One of the shirts in her line does benefit UNICEF, though.
- Bieber signed a licensing agreement with a home fashions company. They will make bedding, beach towels, and bathroom sets with Bieber's picture on them. I can't be the only person who finds this creepy, right?
- The wait is over: Justin Bieber Silly Bandz are now available. Future generations will thank us.

Trends and Pop Culture
- McDonalds is redesigning 400 of its restaurants here in the US and renovating 1,600 others worldwide. No word yet on how that will affect the taste of the food.
- Proving once again that we're actually living in 1950, high school students in the town of Independence, MO, were forced to sign Homecoming Dance contracts that stated there would be no inappropriate physical contact on the dance floor. The list of specifically prohibited actions is extensive and hilarious/depressing.
- According to researchers at UCLA, from 2005 to 2007, the rate of gastric band surgeryamong California teens increased sevenfold. In just two years. Sevenfold.
- The CDC reports that last year 20% of high school kids were smokers, down from 36% in 1997. Clearly Mad Men isn't reaching the younger audiences.

- Jessica Lowndes of 90210 is on the cover of the new Zooey.

The Weekly News Roundup - week of September 13 - 17

BieberWatch 2010
- In his cover interview with Teen Vogue, Justin Bieber revealed that the worst time for fans to approach him is when he's eating. I guess he hasn't had a crazy fan knock on his bathroom window. Yet.
- The girl in Bieber's "Baby" video, Jasmine Villegas, has joined the second half of his North American "My World" tour.
- Bieber finally met Greyson Chance backstage at the VMAs last weekend. I like to think Bieber got all giggly and starstruck, and Chance handled it magnanimously.
- Bieber performed a 4-minute medley at the VMAs ("U Smile", "Baby" and "Somebody to Love"), and also won his first Moon Man trophy for Best New Artist.
- There are rumors that the Biebster will star in a secret Will Smith-produced film based on Bieber's life. We'll finally find out if he can act!
- Bieber's other movie, partly taped at his Madison Square Garden concert, will be in theaters in 3-D starting February 11, 2011.

One Jonas To Rule Them All
- Nick Jonas turned 18 yesterday. Ladies.
- Kevin Jonas brought his wife Danielle to Disneyland on Wednesday. He's all growd up!

Taylor Swift is Everywhere
- Taylor Swift's new single "Mine" leaked several weeks before its scheduled release. I had nothing to do with that.
- At the VMAs last weekend, Taylor performed the song "Innocent", hitting back at Kanye for his shenanigans at last year's VMAs. It did not go over as well as she'd hoped. A year late and a dollar short, darling...
- Taylor Swift is preparing to release her new album "Speak Now" on October 25th, and she will mark the album release with a live performance at the United Nations in New York. MTV and CMT are running a contest where a few lucky fans will win a trip to this performance, and as a bonus they will then fly with Taylor back to LA, conducting live radio interviews with her during the flight.
- Emma Stone hit the red carpet for the premiere of her new movie "Easy A" with her BFF, Taylor Swift.

Movies
- Twilight's Kristin Stewart said in an interview that she was glad to leave school at age 13 because it "wasn't really her thing." Unlike 95% of 13-year-olds. Got it.
- Speaking of Kristin Stewart, Twilight, and ages, her character Bella's birthday was on Monday. In a weird twist of fate, Bella shares a birthday with her creator, Stephanie Meyer. Freaky...
- Emma Stone hit the red carpet for the premiere of her new movie "Easy A" with her BFF,Taylor Swift. Kendall and Kylie Jenner were also there, as was Keke Palmer and Aly and AJ Michalka.
- Zac Efron was in London this week for the British premiere of "Charlie St. Cloud" in Leicester Square. He is currently sporting a creepy beard. No word as to whether it's England-related.

- Emma Roberts hit the red carpet for the NYC premiere of her movie "It's Kind of a Funny Story."

Music
- 18-year-old Sky Ferreira's song "Obsession" is the focus track on the soon-to-be-released soundtrack to "The Vampire Diaries"
- A month before the release of her new album "The Sun Comes Out," Shakira made a new (second) video for her single "Waka Waka", which was the theme song to this summer's World Cup in South Africa. No word yet on which other Muppet catchphrases she will turn into hit songs.
- Katy Perry performed a free concert at her old high school on Tuesday. I'm jealous - the biggest star to come out of my high school was Big Bird, and he never gave back.
- iCarly's Jenette McCurd's new video for her song "Not That Far Away" has an interactive element - fans can upload photos of themselves, which become integrated into the video. Neat idea, but it can't possibly be cooler than http://www.thewildernessdowntown.com/
- Miley Cyrus was pulled over on Monday for talking on her cell phone while driving. It's a far cry from Britney and LiLo circa 2007, eh?
- Other reports claim Miley was actually parked when on the phone. They say paparazzi swarmed her car and she called the cops to have them escort her to safety. A likely story.
- Miley was also seen kissing her former-ex-boyfriend Liam Hemsworth. Breaking up with Liam is the new Quitting Twitter.
- Lady Gaga is getting her own perfume line! Now you too can smell like flank steak, bubble wrap, gyroscopes, or robots.
- 19-year-old British pop singer Pixie Lott released the music video for her song "Broken Arrow!", but more importantly, she also nabbed a Guinness World Record for largest chart-leap: from #72 to #1 in one week.
- JustJaredJr covered Cody Simpson's walk with Zack Bonner on Tuesday in Santa Monica! The one we also covered! OMG!

- Glee premieres next week, and the cast will be joined by Charice, playing a foreign exchange student named Sunshine Corazon whose singing prowess will put everyone to shame.

Non-Glee TV
- Demi Lovato appeared on America's Next Top Model this week, talking with the girls about her anti-bullying campaign. I have this horrible feeling they were only listening to get tips on how to bully each other.
- Chelsea Staub turned 22 this week, which means she only has 10 more years worth of teenage roles ahead of her.
- "Modern Family" starts back up again next Wednesday, September 22nd.
- It's rumored that Jennifer Lopez will be a judge on the upcoming season of American Idol. She might as well.
- SNL returns a week from tomorrow with host Amy Poehler and musical guest Katy Perry.

Trends
- Shakira wears Silly Bandz. We have proof.
- 9 out of 10 LGBT teens are bullied at school. Still. Seriously? What year is this?
- Quitting Twitter is the new Running Away From Home - everyone's doing it, but never for very long.

Web News
- Monique Coleman was joined by special guest Corbin Bleu this week on her webseries "Gimme Mo'"
- Demi Lovato has ended her Twitter break... after about a week. Of course, in teen years, that's like forever.
- Amanda Bynes quit Twitter this week, but will probably be back by next Friday.

Magazines
- The stars of "Teen Mom" are all over magazine stands right now. Don't worry, every generation has terrible taste in role models.
